Pattern: "Motif 88" from Beyond the Square by Edie Eckman.

I made this loopy flower pattern a little more sturdy with a border of dc stitches. I'm seriously about to start picking out a color of yarn to crochet together squares for a blanket!

Here is part of my haul from the library book sale--more old sci fi magazines! The craft book selection wasn't the best this year, though I did pick up a few. There's always next year!

And here's a blog post from another contributor to World of Geekcraft! I'm so excited to see my copy!

I love picot stitches! Today's square is a modified version of the motif used in the pattern for this tablecloth below. I came across it in Golden Hands Volume 6 while reorganizing my bookshelves this weekend. I definitely did more browsing than dusting, and I found a few more motifs to try. If you come across these books for a few dollars each, I recommend buying them! (And if you just so happen to be in Oklahoma City, I can practically guarantee that you can score them for $1 each next weekend at my favorite event of the year, the annual Friends of the Library Booksale!) They are full of patterns for knitting, crochet, embroidery, quilting, and all kinds of other crafts. More pictures of some of my favorites from this volume follow.

I especially love the Princess and the Pea, Thumbelina, and The Little Mermaid wallhangings in the last picture!

Hey, Amy from sweet sweet life featured my mosaics of my progress so far and had some really nice things to say in this post. I was seriously blushing when I read it. Thank you! And thank you to everyone who has left a sweet comment about my project here or on flickr. It really is encouraging and I totally appreciate it! :)

How was your weekend? I *finally* watched the new Star Trek movie. And holy crap, I loved it.

world of geekcraft

world of geekcraft

I'm so excited to let you know that World of Geekcraft, a new book by Susan Beal, is coming out this spring from Chronicle Books. I contributed a project to this book, and oh my gosh, it made the cover! I've been holding in this news for so long! Even if I weren't involved at all and it weren't about awesome geeky crafts, I'd be super excited about this book. Among the other contributors are some of my very favorite bloggers and crafters.

I'm a book nerd, and my project was inspired by my collection of sci fi paperbacks. I really do read these books, and my adjustable book cozy project is perfect for keeping their cool covers from getting scuffed up in my bag. And because I love books and crafts, I have a shelf full of Chronicle books. Getting real actual stuff in the mail from them was quite a thrill. Their books are always very modern and well designed. I can't wait to get my hands on my copy of World of Geekcraft!

sci fi paperbacks

Old sci fi paperbacks have the best covers. I've scanned some of my favorites and added them to this flickr set. I wish I knew who the artists were, but in most cases, they aren't indicated. Why did the covers of paperbacks have to become so boring? Check out these newly released covers by designer Sanda Zahirovic. Pretty cool!

dorothy moore's pattern drafting and dressmaking

This is one of my favorite finds from this year's Friends of the Library book sale. I have yet to use the book to actually draft a pattern, but the illustrations are awesome. The clothes they picture remind me of the old sewing patterns my mom owns and Barbie clothes she used to make for me.
