the granny square throw is complete!

I'm so happy with the way this turned out! You should know that "neutral" is not part of my vocabulary. Below is how it will look most of the time but probably on the couch instead of the bed. I used the "join as you go" method to put this together (check out sarah london textiles' flickr set with super clear step-by-step instructions for doing this), and I added a row of each color used in the squares for the border.

Bonus shot of the quilt I made a couple of years ago from scraps of vintage bedsheets and pillow cases.

  1. Hi, found your blog through Flickr, and it has actually answered my question about how you joined your squares! I still do it the old fashioned way, but next time I make a blanket I am definitely trying this join-as-you-go lark. Much quicker!

That blanket is gorgeous. I always think I should do more neutral colored projects and then "slip" back to my more colorful ways.

  5. Amy, join as you go takes practically no time at all because your last round of each granny square is what does the joining! You'll love it!

Chancy, I don't even fool myself anymore! I know I'll have more fun if what I'm making is colorful.

    Thanks, pickles!

The Mangerchine, it is so easy. You have to give it a shot!

AllyJo! Make them! I'm so glad that I could have inspired you this way.

Would you mind listing the colors that you used?

  7. You know, I no longer have the labels for any of the yarn that I used, but it was just Red Heart Super Saver. Next time I'm at the store, I'll have to write down the names of the colors!

  10. Absolutely gorgeous. Will you share it? My grandma taught me how to make granny squares when I was little bitty, but I never learned how to join them.

    Love your blog.

    take care,

  12. Hi, I found your throw over at craftster and was blown away by how beautiful it is. I love all those colors!!!! It has inspired me to start making one of my own..... you can see the beginnings of it over at my blog http://hatsbydavid.blogspot.com ..... I hope you won't mind that I used your picture in my post. I will gladly remove it if you don't want it there. Just wanted you to know you've inspired me to do a new project.
